One of the concerns that we have for our patients after weight loss surgery is weight gain. Every gastric bypass patient knows that as time goes along they can eat more and weight regain can happen if not careful. One of the reasons patients can gain weight after a gastric bypass is partially due to enlargement of the pouch and the opening between the pouch in the small intestine. Until recently there was no reasonable solution to this problem except for aggressive dietary management or surgical revision. Unfortunately surgical revision carries with it the risk of surgery. An innovative new procedure is now being performed by bariatric surgeons across the country known as the ROSE procedure. This involves placing an instrument into the pouch through the mouth in order to reduce the size of the pouch and stoma. Initial results with this innovative technology has been promising. Dr. Chasen and myself are happy to now be able to provide this new procedure to our patients and the Augusta community. For further information regarding this technology you can call the office or visit USGI medicals website at www.USGImedical.com.
This new technology allows us to help patients who might have some issue with weight gain but not expose them to the risk of reoperative surgery
I am a patient of Dr. Blaney that is requesting to get approval for the ROSE procedure and was told that the ROSE procedure could not be performed at Trinity Hospital unless you were paying by cash. If this is true, is Dr. Blaney recommending another surgeon that can perform the procedure at another hospital.

Currently Trinity hospital is working with their parent company CHS, to figure out the insurance issues. THis is the reason for the delay in getting these cases done. As far as I’m concerned this is a reasonable procedure to consider and we have seen good success with weight loss after the procedure. I will keep you posted about the progress at Trinity. We hope to have this resolved soon.
